God is eternal and unchangeable. We change but God does not. We must worship God who does not change and we must not worship men who do change.

God is eternal.

Psalms 90:1-2: A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

1 Timothy 1:17: Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

God is self-existent.

Exodus 3:13-14: And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

John 5:26-27: For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

He gives life, both physical and spiritual.

John 6:33: For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Deuteronomy 32:39: See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

God is unchangeable, both in essence (that is what He is) and in character (that is what He does).

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Malachi 3:6: For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Because He is unchangeable and dependable we can trust Him. He gives a measure of stability to His children that they did not have without Him.
